1. IMPORTANCE OF WASHING
Always, always, always wash your sheets separately before use. This is an absolutely necessary step as it prevents problems like pilling and will help your sheets to look their best and last longer.
2. USE A EURO
If you don’t have a bed head use some Euro pillows against the wall instead to create interest and depth to a look. We also rate this for top comfort!
3. LAYERS, LAYERS, LAYERS!
Create warmth and style by adding a quilt coverlet over your duvet. Go one step further and add a relaxed throw or blanket for interesting and stylish layering. Do the same with your dining table by using a base cloth and adding patterned napkins, colourful décor plates and placemats.
4. THREAD COUNT... WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Here at L&M we think thread count is a ‘buzz word’ in the marketing of bed linen. A high thread count doesn’t necessarily mean a high quality product. High thread counts such as 1000-2000 have several thin threads twisted to achieve this count which means it is usually not a high quality cotton and is not long lasting!
5. SET THE TABLE
Table linen - Before choosing your table linen measure the size of your dining table, aim for a 20-30cm drop on each side. Placemats & Napkins – Always have more than you think you need (for that unexpected spillage). Centre piece – ensure your centre piece doesn’t block any eye contact. Cutlery – ensure silverware is sparkling and placed correctly. Finally - Pour yourself a well-deserved drink and enjoy!
1. PILE ON THE CUSHIONS!
One pair of standard pillows always looks a bit lean so add a couple of euro pillows and some decorative cushions to give that properly made bed feel. Euros look especially good if you don't have a bed head and if you have a king size bed you can use 3 to create depth.
2. LOTS OF LAYERS.
I love layering on a bed with quilts and throws on top of your duvet, the more the merrier! They can be folded and layered on top of each other for a more formal bed, or simply draped at the end of the bed for a more relaxed look.
3. FINISHING TOUCHES.
If you have an ensemble bed you must, must, must invest in a valance! There is nothing worse than seeing bed legs or a mattress base! It will finish off your bed perfectly. A bed head is also a great investment and will take your bed to the next level. Throw in some scatter cushions that compliment your bedlinen and tie in with some decorative objects on your bedside or artwork, and your bedroom will be a gorgeous haven.
